. . . . and strengthen your argument’. Lebanese Proverb.

Tomorrow, 16 April 2013, is World Voice Day*. World Voice Day is a worldwide celebration of the phenomenon of voice. In addition to the opening quotation, below are my other favourite quotations about the voice.

Since many people take their voice for granted –  I suggest during this week you appreciate the voice you have. In my prior career as a speech pathologist I worked with patients that had injured voices due to their own abuse of it, or from a physical accident or medical condition. Once they realised that their injured voice would be a permanent condition they had a new appreciation of their voice.

So this week appreciate your voice. Listen to your voice. Listen to other people voices. Get curious about what a voice conveys about a person. Consider what voices you like and don’t like, and why. Notch up your voice loudness on occasion and see what response it receives.

– ” I have never fallen in love with my own voice, but I’ve always had an attraction for it.” Tom Snyder

–  ” There are times when silence has the loudest voice.” Leroy Browlow

 – “A man’s style is his mind’s voice. Wooden minds, wooden voices.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

– “The most successful politician is he who says what the people are thinking most often in the loudest voice.” Theodore Roosevelt

– “If you have an opportunity to use your voice you should use it.” Samuel L. Jackson

– “Stand before the people you fear and speak your mind – even if your voice shakes.” Maggie Kuhn

– “The voice is such a deep, personal reflection of character.” Daniel Day Lewis
